CLASSROOM CORNER
Mrs. Wolfe
Guest speaker, Susie Rot-Barrto, spoke to both 7th and 8th grade Bible classes in May. Susie is the founder of the ministry, Wrapped in Love, which she started ten years ago to minister to the needy and the homeless. Her example and attitude reflect the glory of God as was described in Bible classes this year.
Mrs. Painter
Honors Chemistry Final Lab – double replacement reactions. Students had to determine grams of solute to make the correct concentration of their solutions, then do the replacement reaction and determine what the precipitate was and its density.
Physics students made energy houses using various insulation to see if they could keep the cool air inside their houses from escaping (there are bags with ice on the inside).
Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Garbelman
In Introduction to Agriculture class, students were required to work on an SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience) project. Through this project, students explored career opportunities and in some cases, gained work experience. Mr. Pedro Villafane, father of student Julian Villafane, came in to speak about his career as a contracted pipeline welder.
Mrs. Schnyders
Mrs. Schnyders Health & Wellness class dissected cow eyes as part of their Eye Health unit. Students identified the various structures of the eye, giving them a hands-on view of how the eye functions as well as how various disorders of the eye can be prevented or treated.
Biology class students competed in a series of games “Survivor”-style to review for their assessments throughout the semester. The pictures capture the final exam review to crown the ultimate science “Survivor”!
Mrs. Tickel
Students from Geometry classes designed and created kites. This was a unit on quadrilaterals and once created, students flew their kites! Students discovered the importance of the various characteristics they learned about “kites”, including calculating area, measuring diagonal lengths, as well as the angle measurements of their personalized kites.
Mrs. Motley
Mrs. Motley’s Middle School Music class working through reading notes, tones and playing a musical piece as an ensemble.
Mrs. Sovern
Junior Bible class gave presentations on God’s creation – things that causes us to be in awe and wonder of who God is and His mighty power.
Mustang Athletics
Senior Signing
Congratulations to senior Abigail MacDonald, Mustang Rodeo team member, on signing with Murray State where she will continue her rodeo career!
Track and Field – Freshman Graham Razum Qualifies for State
Congratulations to our freshman distance runner, Graham Razum. At the end of the 2024 Track and Field season, Graham placed 1st in the 1600m race at sectionals with a time of 4:44:11. This time and placement qualified him to compete at state. Though Graham came up a little short this year at state, he knows what improvements need to happen. He and his coaches, Doc Schutt and Javier Garcia, are confident in his abilities and dedication to make big strides for next year. Graham will again be on the Cross Country team which competes in Fall of 2024. He’s looking forward to a full summer of tough training!
MUSTANGS IN THE COMMUNITY
2023-2024 Partnership with Indian Valley Vocational Center

And three of our four seniors were recognized at Senior Recognition Night in May.
Isabella Bitner (senior) – CNA
Dillon Bulson (junior) – Culinary Arts

Abraham McDavitt (senior) – Computer Technology
Tyler Schroedle (junior) – Law Enforcement

Super Seniors – Students With a Passion
Kaelia Fox utilized her amazing design skills to create the 2023-2024 Graduation and the 8th Grade Recognition programs. Aside from her God-given talent and the art classes she has taken at YCS, she has spent hours honing her skills independently. We wish her much success as she pursues her degree in design in Missouri State-Springfield!
Tristan Gleason started flight school in August, 2023 at J.F. Aviation in Joliet, IL, where he has been working to receive his private pilot certification. His commitment to this program, during the school year of 2 days per week, has been preparing him for commercial certification, which he will be pursuing at Gateway Technical College in Kenosha, WI. Best wishes, Tristan!
Brookfield Zoo Field Trip
Mrs. Stewart’s and Mrs. Garbelman’s Animal Science classes took an end-of-the-year field trip to Brookfield Zoo after a classroom visit from one of our parents, Mrs. McDavitt, whose past career was a zookeeper at Brookfield Zoo. She also accompanied the students on the field trip.
Fair Oaks Field Trip
Fair Oaks Farms in Fair Oaks, IN, was another field trip taken this spring. Students from Mrs. Stewart’s and Mrs. Garbelman’s The Introduction to Agriculture and Agriculture Business classes visited their grounds and facility. They toured The Pig and Dairy Adventures.
8th Grade Trip to Main Event
Our 8th grade class was able to go off-campus for a fun day of gaming at Main Event accompanied by Mrs. Wolfe and Mr. Versluys. It was a special way to end the year for 8th grade!
