CLASSROOM CORNER

Mr. McDavitt – Illustration & Graphic Design Class

Mr. McDavitt’s Illustration & Graphic Design class took a field trip to Stern Pinball in Elk Grove Village on April 16th. Students were able to see art with real-world application from a company whose products are purchased worldwide.

Mrs. Painter – Honors Chemistry Class

Mrs. Painter’s Honors Chemistry class conducted a tasty experiment. Making ice cream was used to demonstrate colligative properties of solutions. And the students were able to eat their finished products!

Mrs. Schnyders – Biology Class

Students from Mrs. Schnyders Biology Class participated in fetal pig dissection to examine body systems. The goal was to learn how systems are related and dependent on each other.

Mrs. Tickel  – Geometry Classes

Mrs. Tickel’s Geometry students and Honors Geometry students went on a shape walk on April 15th. During the walk students discovered where in our beautiful creation shapes could be found. They looked at both 2-D and 3-D shapes and created word problems to solve. Students even discovered rocks on the gravel path that were shaped like trapezoids, acute triangles, spears, and parallelograms.

Mr. Ben Versluys – Physical Education

At the end of March, Mr. Ben Versluys’ Physical Education classes concluded their bowling segment with a visit to our local bowling alley, PINZ, to put into practice what they learned. It’s always refreshing to get off campus for a field trip!

Mustang Athletics

Baseball Tournament in TN

Mustang Baseball was in Tennessee over our Easter Break. Yorkville Christian played several opponents over a three day period. The boys worked hard! Head Coach Bieterman was pleased with the results and complemented all the parents for their support during the trip, from providing food to uniform washing to cheering on the team. Every player had a parent present on this trip to lend support!

Senior Signing

Congratulations to our Mustang Baseball catcher, Jess Seaton, on signing with Vermont State – Lyndon where he will be studying meteorology next school year!

Wrestling Banquet

On Friday, April 19, the 2023-2024 Mustang Wrestling Team had an end of the year banquet. Ty Edwards was again recognized as this year’s Illinois State Wrestler Champion (132 lbs.), as well as two other seniors, Triston Gleason and Grayson Johnson, for their accomplishments. Coach Mike Vester complemented each team member on their character, spoke about goals from this past season, and goals for the 2024-2025 season. A special thank you to all the wrestlers on their commitment, to the parents for their support, and to the coaches for their time and dedication to the wrestlers.

MUSTANGS IN THE COMMUNITY

Nutrition & Athletes

On Tuesday, April 2nd, Dr. Jeff Schutt, Head Coach for Track and Field and Girls Basketball, presented a nutrition talk to athletes and their parents about how to use nutrition to improve their athletic abilities. Dr. Schutt covered topics such as: what type of foods to eat, when is the best time to eat, how to keep fat off, how to gain weight with building muscle, supplementation, recovery techniques to be able to practice well the next day after a hard workout.

Doc Schutt is yet another resource that Yorkville Christian School has to help our athletes excel.

The Eclipse of 2024

Yorkville Christian students were outside, safely watching the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th. Students, equipped with special eclipse glasses, were able to watch the 93% totality around 2pm that afternoon in Yorkville. The next solar eclipse is scheduled for August 23, 2044.

Senior Trip

Some students from our Class of 2024 attended the Senior Trip to Kentucky during the first full week of April. They had a blast attending a Cincinnati Reds baseball game. They also visited the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter, went to an adrenaline park for go-kart racing and Dave & Buster’s for the final day of entertainment. Many memories were made, and friendships grown!

Best wishes to all of our seniors!

Graduation is set for Friday, May 17 at 6pm.

YCS Past, Present and Future

While on the Senior Trip, Yorkville Christian came across a group from Trinity Christian School from Shorewood on their 8th Grade Trip.  A few pictures captured the special relationship between Yorkville Christian and Trinity Christian School. Pictured are Maddie Coffel-Deeter (YCS Class of 2020) who is also an alumna of Trinity Christian School (Class of 2016) and currently working at Trinity Christian School, two of our current seniors (Class of 2024) who are also alumni from TCS (Class of 2020), Jaiden Boisvert and Abraham McDavitt, and two of the several incoming freshmen from Trinity Christian (Class of 2024) soon to be Yorkville Christian Mustangs (Class of 2028)! How awesome is God’s timing!

FFA Banquet

The Yorkville Christian FFA Chapter had their end of the year banquet on Tuesday, April 16th with over 200 people in attendance including many of our local farm neighbors, who also attended the FFA Breakfast several weeks back! There was great food, an amazing array of silent auction items, and a terrific program including a warm send-off for the seniors in our chapter. Congratulations on a fantastic year!
