YORKVILLE CHRISTIAN TO OFFER MIDDLE SCHOOL IN FALL OF 2023

After years of prayer and discussion, the Yorkville Christian School Board in December approved the start of a 7th and 8th grade middle school at Yorkville Christian.  The middle school will start in the Fall of 2023.  The 7th grade class will be capped at 25 students, and the 8th grade class will be capped at 25 students.   Yorkville Christian Middle School will offer sports — girls volleyball, girls’ and boys’ basketball, soccer, and track for now.  The tuition will be $8500 a year per student, and because of the limited enrollment spots, we will not be offering tuition assistance for the middle school; however, there will be a multiple student discount of $2000, if a family has two students in the middle school or a student in the middle school and another in the high school.  The middle school students will be offered a full variety of classes including electives, and will have a special wing of the building, but will be switching classes, participating in chapel, and eating lunch in the school cafeteria, and participating in PE classes in our Canyon gymnasium. We will have a special staff of teachers we will be hiring to teach the middle school students.   We are going to offer a $250 discount per student to any family who enrolls in our middle school before January 31, 2023.

Here are the two steps to enroll:

1)  Complete the enrollment application which can be done using this link:

https://yorkvillechristian.com/enrollment/

2)  Families will need to make a $600 tuition down payment, which will be subtracted from the overall tuition cost of $8500 (or $8250 with the early discount).  The payment can be made securely using this link or a check can be dropped off at the school office (checks payable to Yorkville Christian High School).  Here is the link for tuition down payment:

PLEASE share this exciting news and information with any families you know who might be interested, as we are definitely capping each class at 25 total students, so spots will fill up quickly.

We are so excited God is moving us in this direction, and we cannot wait to see His plan moving forward with this middle school.  To God be the Glory!

Yorkville Christian Hosts Fine Arts Shadow Day

On Thursday, December 1, Yorkville Christian High School hosted a Fine Arts Shadow Day.  Twelve students from nine different middle schools joined us for an exciting day.  The shadows started their day with a drawing class led by Yorkville Christian High School art teacher, Mr. John McDavitt.  The shadow guests worked on drawing some basic objects and shading.  Shadow guests then attended a few classes with their shadow hosts, and also attended our piano and guitar classes.  Our guests were able to attend chapel and enjoyed a catered lunch where they were able to ask questions of our music, art, and theater teachers.  In the afternoon, the shadow guests attended a few other classes with their hosts, and finished the day with a painting lesson with Mr. McDavitt.  It was a day packed full of exciting and fun activities, and some great learning experiences.  Thank you to all the shadows who joined us and to our Fine Arts teachers for their help making the day special.

Yorkville Christian Hosts Agriculture Shadow Day

CLASSROOM CORNER

Chemistry

The Yorkville Christian High School Chemistry 1 classes recently completed an experiment that tested the PH levels of eleven different household products including table salt, lemonade, baking soda, milk of magnesia, etc. to see if the products were acidic or base.  Students predicted what the acidic levels and base levels would be and then found out which products had the strongest acidic content and the which ones had the strongest base content.  The students also looked for common characteristics with the products.  It was a great hands-on learning experiment used by our Chemistry teacher, Mr. Greg Spears.

Biology

Biology students recently completed labs on macromolecules – carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and nucleus acids to further their understanding of each of these biomolecules and how essential they are to life.

Introduction to Drawing and Painting

Students in Mr. John McDavitt’s Introduction to Drawing and Painting classes recently completed a Southwestern theme painting assignment.  The students were given a reference photo and then were asked to sketch the picture first and then paint the photo.  The students completed some amazing paintings, as some of the samples are shared below.  Great job students!

Honors Sports Management

On Thursday, December 8, the Yorkville Christian High School Honors Sports Management class under the direction of Mr. Aaron Sovern, experienced a once in a lifetime opportunity, as the entire class traveled to Milwaukee to spend time with Mr. Jon Horst, the General Manager of the NBA Milwaukee Bucks.  The was treated to a tour of the facility and a question-and-answer session with Mr. Horst.  It was an amazing trip for our students.  Special thanks to Mr. Sovern for arranging the trip, and to Mr. Horst for his extreme generosity with his time.

Piano Class

The Yorkville Christian High School Piano Class, under the instruction of Mrs. Christy Motley, has been learning a variety of Christmas songs to play during the Christmas holiday.   The students have made tremendous strides throughout the semester learning how to play the piano.

Health and Wellness

the Health and Wellness classes recently completed a unit on Cycling/Road Safety.  The Health classes at Yorkville Christian are taught by Mrs. Laura Schnyders and Mr. Earl Ashmore.  Mrs. Schnyders led a detailed discussion with the students about cycling and road safety.  This is an issue that is very close to her heart, as last year she lost her sister, a professional cyclist, who was struck and killed while riding her bike on a bike path by an impaired driver.  The students enjoyed learning about the many health advantages of cycling, and also the importance of road safety.

Honors Physics

Students in Dr. Hooper’s Honors Physics class gave presentations regarding their favorite person who impacted the world of physics.  Each student had to present on the background of their person; what impact he or she had on the world of physics; and what was something new they learned about them.   The students had to present for eight minutes or more, and then face a panel for additional questions.  The format was set up to simulate what it would be like to present at a conference.  The students did a great job!

Spanish 1

Spanish 1 classes, under the direction of Mrs. Bridget Aguado, recently completed a group project where students had to create a skit pretending they were in a restaurant ordering a meal.  The students had to create a menu; order a meal for everyone in their party; and then pretend something went wrong.  In addition, each group had to actually create one of the food items from their menu for the rest of the class to taste and sample.  The students did a great job, and it was a great real-life learning experience for the students.
