Meet our new Mustang staff member

Meet Ms. Alyssa Taglia
English Teacher

Hello Mustang families!  My name is Alyssa Taglia, and I am delighted to begin teaching English at Yorkville Christian High School.  I recently graduated from Concordia University Chicago, where I studied English Education and ran cross country and track.

I am so glad God led me to Yorkville Christian High School.  I learned about the school from a friend who knew Mr. Fred Versluys teaches here.  He was my principal in elementary school!  Now that I will be teaching at Yorkville Christian as well, I cannot wait to get started working with the students on their language skills.  In junior high, I had an English teacher who inspired me to love reading and writing.  Even more importantly, she did so in a way that strengthened my faith.  Now, I aspire to do the same for my students.

In my free time I enjoy running, cooking, reading, and playing with my puppy.  I attend First Baptist Church in Downers Grove, where I also teach Sunday School.  I believe a Christ-centered and tight-knit community cultivates an excellent learning environment, and I am so thankful to be a part of that at Yorkville Christian High School.

Won’t you share your story?

Please consider joining the Yorkville Christian High School Parent Ambassador Program!

In the world of school marketing, there is outbound marketing, inbound marketing, and what Rick Newberry, President of Enrollment Catalyst, refers to as WOM bound marketing. Outbound marketing involves advertising the school through direct mailings, radio ads, TV ads, and print ads. Inbound marketing involves resources like social media — Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Both of these types of school marketing have some value, but the most important and often most overlooked method of school marketing is called WOM bound marketing.

I firmly believe this is the most important marketing for a school to be successful. Rick Newberry defines WOM bound marketing as “the intentional and proactive strategy to generate, facilitate, and inspire Word of Mouth marketing through your parent ambassadors”. Some common methods include person-to-person meetings, sharing personal experiences and stories, providing trustworthy referrals to prospective families searching for a high school, relating how our school could be a perfect fit for a prospective family, and advocating on behalf of our school. Did you know that 92% of all consumers rely on word of mouth? Word of mouth is also the #1 way prospective parents find out about a school!

Why choose Christian education? I am sure at some point in time someone has asked you “why do you send your children to a Christian school?” I am sure your answer centered on the idea that you know Christian education is one of the best investments that you can make for the sake of your children. I think this Bible verse says it best. “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6.

As a current Yorkville Christian family, you play a vital role in helping us continue to provide the opportunities needed for your children and future generations of children to experience, enjoy, and invest in our Christ centered learning community. Research and statistics continue to prove that our current families and alumni are our best ambassadors for our schools. Your story is so effective, because it allows you to communicate your experiences with our school in your own words.

The purpose of the “Parent Ambassador Program” is really very simple. The Parent Ambassador program uses our best school ambassadors, our current parents, to tell prospective families about Yorkville Christian High School. We would like to get our current families more involved in the recruiting process and help us identify families that might be interested in Yorkville Christian High School.

There are many different ways to get involved in this program. We would love to have you invite families you know to our open house, distribute open house flyers in family friendly locations in your neighborhoods, and most of all sharing your experiences at our school with prospective families. Just think what could happen if each current York

ville Christian family would invite 10 prospective families they know to visit our Yorkville Christian High School Open House! Additional involvement opportunities include such things like follow-up phone calls, personal notes to prospective and new families, and joining a touring family for a time of coffee or lunch.

The Parent Ambassador Program also will provide an opportunity for parents of Yorkville Christian High School students to receive a tuition credit through our new Family Referral Program. If the family you tell about Yorkville Christian ends up enrolling at YorkvilleChristian, you can qualify for a tuition credit.

Being a part of the Parent Ambassador Program, does not require a large time investment. Most of the work for this program can be done by you on your own time, and it is totally up to you how much time you want to invest – every bit helps!

Thank you for your continued support of Yorkville Christian High School, and the Christ-centered learning that takes place thanks to God’s faithfulness. Please prayerfully consider being a part of this vital program! We NEED your help! To join the team, or if you have any questions concerning the program, please email our Director of Outreach and Enrollment, Tim Schnyders, at tschnyders@yorkvillechristian.com or call him at (630) 708-7927.

On Saturday, August 14, Yorkville Christian High School alum, Micah Schnyders (Class of 2020), hosted the “Hoops 4 Hunger” Basketball Clinics at Yorkville Christian High School for boys and girls in grades K-9.  The purpose of the clinics was to teach the fundamentals of basketball, while collecting food items for the local food pantries, who are in desperate need of donations.  The day was a huge success on both fronts, as over 100 players attended the first-year event, and over 1,600 food items were collected and donated to local food pantries.  A special thanks to the coaches and players who donated their time to help run the event.  The plan is to make it an annual event, so mark your calendars for August next year.
